Database to facilitate data preparation

Digikoo's data scientists should be supported in their daily work. That is why we are creating a powerful and scalable Snowflake database that migrates the required geodata into a structured data schema and provides it automatically, quality-checked and in the form of the target data model.

Until now, the manual import and preparation of individual data sets has taken a lot of time. The future infrastructure should make this easier and at the same time create a basis for expanding the processing and provision of data.

Our client: Shaping the climate transition at local level

Digikoo GmbH, an E.ON Group company, offers data-based information that enables municipal utilities, local authorities and electricity and energy suppliers across Germany to digitally plan and efficiently implement their climate transition.

With the specially developed "digipad" software, Digikoo provides customized insights into the areas of electricity, transport and heating. Data is processed in such a way that well-founded statements about the current status and future developments are possible. Digikoo supports its customers in implementing digital solutions for the climate transition.

Our task:

Development of a data platform
in the Azure Cloud

We developed a fully functional foundation data platform on the Microsoft Azure Cloud. With the components Snowflake, Airflow, duckdb and dbt, which efficiently imports and manages geodata from an Azure data lake. GenAI functions automatically convert the data points into the target format and check the data. These automated validation and correction processes ensure high data quality and consistency.

Different data formats

Data in a wide variety of formats had to be read in. It was also necessary to identify the type of source. The data had to be analyzed in order to combine it with the data from the data platform. The access rights of individual users had to be taken into account.

The result: database and infrastructure are robust and more scalable

The data platform on the Azure Cloud efficiently imports and manages geodata from an Azure data lake. Automated data conversion is based on GenAI and improves data quality. Our robust and scalable IT infrastructure addresses future requirements brought about by data growth. We have fully documented the system architecture, data models and operating procedures and trained the dev team at Digikoo. The team is now able to manage and independently develop the database and infrastructure.
