Project Duration

January 2023 through July 2026

The user experience in industrial automation should be consistent

KUKA develops software solutions for the programming, configuration, simulation, and operation of robotic systems. In addition to the core platforms for engineering and operations, the portfolio includes a wide range of application and technology packages for various use cases in industrial automation.

The goal of the project was to create a consistent user experience across these solutions and to provide users with a unified experience throughout their engineering and operational tasks.

UX and UI Design in the Field of Robotics

MaibornWolff supported KUKA with UX and UI design for various technology and application solutions in the robotics field. Together with the product, UX, and development teams, we analyzed workflows, developed information architectures, and created interaction concepts for different user groups.

Close collaboration between UX, Product, and Development

Close collaboration between UX, product, and development teams was a key factor in successfully standardizing UX concepts across multiple domains, technology stacks, and product areas. The goal was to integrate diverse requirements and established solutions into a consistent user experience.

Harmonization of User Interface Concepts

A key focus was on harmonizing user interface concepts across multiple applications and technology areas. To this end, common UX principles, reusable interaction patterns, and design guidelines were defined, and their application in various product contexts was supported. The concepts developed were validated through wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes and were continuously refined.

A UX Foundation for Multiple Software Applications

This resulted in a common UX foundation for multiple technology and application solutions within the KUKA software portfolio. This UX foundation is scalable and supports product teams in developing new features and solutions.

User guidance has been improved, and complex engineering workflows have been simplified through structured information architectures and user-centered concepts.

A shared understanding of user experience has been established across multiple product areas and among various stakeholders.

Why MaibornWolff?

As one of the most innovative IT service providers with a great passion for AI, we focus entirely on the project business and individual software development - without our own products. To stay at the forefront, we continuously invest in our team of digital technology engineers and develop digital solutions that are well thought-out, efficient and reduced to the essentials.

Our principle: simplicity instead of complexity. We only develop what is really needed - tailor-made, useful and reliable. Our results speak for themselves. With over 800 large-scale systems and more than 10,000 person-years of experience in high-end software engineering, we are one of the few who can reliably implement even the largest and most complex IT landscapes. Thanks to close partnerships with leading hyperscalers, our customers operate their solutions in today's most modern and powerful environments.

Less technology. Better Business.
