Sustainability: Digital solutions for a sustainable future
Digital solutions for a sustainable future
Our modern world only works with intelligent and well-functioning technology. And that needs energy. This makes it all the more important that we as a technology company are aware of our responsibility for sustainable development and the careful use of resources.
Less technology. Better Business." This is what we stand for. This responsibility is our deeply rooted conviction, which - derived from our vision of "contributing to a better world with our skills" - motivates and drives each and every one of us at MaibornWolff.
Anyone who believes that IT and sustainability are incompatible is mistaken. Properly implemented IT solutions are economical in operation and can contribute directly or indirectly to CO2 savings, less water consumption or better air quality.
We have set ourselves a mission: We empower organizations through consulting, design, development and operation of tailor-made software solutions.

We are responsible in our projects - and think about resource-conserving development and sustainable operation at the same time.
Our approaches: "Green IT" and "Green by IT"
With Green IT, we focus on how IT can be designed and developed sustainably and operated in a way that conserves resources. This involves reducing energy consumption, using resources efficiently and minimizing the environmental impact of IT infrastructure.
For us, Green by IT means using IT in such a way that we build solutions that enable and promote sustainability in our customers' business areas. For example, we can save energy through intelligent control systems or establish more environmentally friendly processes for our customers through digital solutions.

Certified by Ecovadis
We also strive to make our own contribution and to operate as resource-efficiently as possible. The EcoVadis certification confirms the high sustainability performance of our business processes in the areas of the environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
IT with sustainability: intelligent solutions that create added value.
From automotive and e-mobility to smart cities and renewable energies: our digital solutions promote sustainable technologies and actively contribute to reducing environmental impact . Within a number of IT projects, we are working with our customers on digital solutions that have a positive impact on our environment. Here is a selection:
Development of an auction platform for wind energy
Renewable energies:
Within three months, our team developed a cloud-based web platform for a start-up that brings together landowners and project developers of wind turbines. We then passed on our knowledge of building and operating the platform and helped the client to expand the internal team.
The aim is to use the auction platform to accelerate the expansion of wind energy and drive forward the energy transition. Owners can have their land checked for wind suitability, air traffic control, nature conservation areas and other factors. From the initial check to the offer by suitable leaseholders, interested landowners can manage everything in one place. Using a highly precise and fair calculation, companies can find out how much money they can generate from the construction of wind power and the energy sold.
Green Impact:
Wind turbines can be built much faster thanks to an improved analysis and bidding process. This can save years of planning. Faster availability of wind power contributes to CO2 savings in Germany.
Development and operation of an e-mobility infrastructure
E-Mobility:
We build and operate a cloud-based, quickly available and flexibly expandable platform for e-mobility for our customers. It enables access via smartphone to one of the largest international charging networks (more than 350,000 charging points in 25 markets).
Green Impact:
Using technology to make electric charging convenient and thereby attract more people to e-mobility: These solutions provide access to multiple networks of charging infrastructure operators, making it easier for drivers of electric vehicles to find, use and pay for public charging stations.
IoT Bike - app to improve cycle path safety
Smart City:
With our smartphone app "IoT-Bike", data can be collected about the cycle path infrastructure of cities - while riding and without additional hardware. The app uses the smartphones of participating cyclists as sensors and displays the collected data anonymously on road maps. The scalable approach through the use of smartphones, the participation of many cyclists through the crowd-sourcing approach and the resulting opportunity for everyone to contribute to sustainable living in the city are remarkable.
Green impact:
The fact that data is recorded directly via smartphone and is immediately available means that responsible city planners can identify weak points in the cycling infrastructure much earlier and initiate measures to rectify them. This makes the cycling infrastructure safer and better, giving more people the opportunity to use it.
Development of the front end for a monitoring platform for photovoltaic systems
Renewable energies:
Since 2016, we have been working with our client to develop the web UI for their platform, which manages PV systems and solar parks and determines important KPIs such as consumption, feed-in, history or weather data.
Green Impact:
Over one million registered users and almost 900,000 registered photovoltaic systems are connected to the portal. As one of the largest monitoring portals, it monitors more than 30 gigawatts of PV power in over 160 countries. The platform ensures that consumers can use the stored solar energy at any time, regardless of the time of day.
Digitization of key production figures via app
Smart Factory:
We have designed and developed an app that records quantities and faults in production exactly where they occur. Previously, these had to be recorded on printed tally sheets. A dashboard provides an overview of ongoing production and analyzes key production figures. This lays the foundation for further use cases, such as predictive maintenance.
Green impact:
The first step towards a paperless factory has been taken. This can save several hundred pages of paper per week.

There are issues where good is not good enough. We want to become a more diverse and inclusive company than we already are.

Step by step: our ecological footprint
We have been using 100% green electricity in Germany since 2011 and have been offsetting our entire CO2 emissions every year since 2018. We also offer job bikes and provide charging stations for electric cars at almost all locations where we have our own parking spaces. This is also necessary, as more than two thirds of the cars in our company fleet are now electric.
We also want to set a good example internationally. Take Tunisia, where gas is used to generate electricity across the board. To reduce our impact, we have installed a photovoltaic system on our roof in Tunis and thus significantly reduced our energy consumption.

Solar energy instead of gas: if we can encourage our Tunisian neighbors to rethink, it's a win-win situation for everyone.
We are still a loooooong way from being finished!
Are we already at the end? Absolutely not. At MaibornWolff, we are constantly striving to improve. If you look hard enough, you will find something. Together with our customers, best friends and technology partners, we get a little closer to our vision every day.
